An Interview with Danny Rivera, Mattress Market Outlet Owner and President
For seven years, Mattress Market Outlet has been providing excellent service to the communities of Leesburg and Clermont, FL. We sat down with President and Owner Danny Rivera to talk about his experience owning such a successful company.
Mr. Rivera, owning a successful mattress company couldn’t have been your very first career move. What prepared you to take on such a challenging role?
I’ve been working since I was 11 years old. Twenty years ago, I started working in manufacturing for a top brand mattress company. I learned the skill there, and then started manufacturing and selling my own mattresses, which then led to opening my own store and selling my own products.
That’s a very impressive success story! Has it been an easy road so far?
The biggest obstacle has been hearing negativity from my competitors to customers about the merchandise that I sell. The funny thing is that we sell similar products — mine just happen to be inexpensive. I’ve lost the drive in the past, but the way I got it back was from hearing positive feedback from customers. The pros outweigh the cons. The only mistake I think I’ve made was not opening a store sooner.
It must be very rewarding to hear so many good things from your customers. Would you say that their feedback has been the best part of running your own company?
The most rewarding part has been the look on customers’ faces when they feel and know that we gave them a great deal, and when they come back.
It’s certainly hard to argue with those kinds of results! How do you see your business growing in the future as a result of that success?
I plan on expanding my business, focusing on the wholesale distribution aspect, and opening two more locations.
If your previous success is any indicator, I’m sure you’ll have no trouble at all! Do you have any parting words of wisdom for aspiring business owners out there?
Take a risk. You’ll never know until you try. Believe in yourself, and work harder than the next person.
